Looking for people to share their experience in the LGBT Purge
Dear Friends,
Between the 1950s and the mid-1990s, countless 2SLGBTQIA+ Canadians faced discrimination, investigations, and dismissal from public service and the military in what is now known as the LGBT Purge. Many have lived with the lasting trauma of that injustice.
As part of ongoing efforts to honour those affected and ensure these stories are never forgotten, We am reaching out to connect with individuals who may be interested in sharing their experiences. There are two ways you might consider participating:
Langley Pride Day Panel: We are looking to form a speaking group to reflect on the Purge — exploring where we were, where we are now, and the memorial and government recognition that has taken place.
Weekly Radio Discussion: Our chair also co-hosts a weekly radio show that discusses current and historical events that have shaped our community. He would love to feature voices who can speak to this important part of Canadian history.
If you would like to share your story or learn more about how you can participate, please contact James at james@langleypridesociety.ca.
Your insight and experiences are vital in keeping our history visible and ensuring future generations understand the journey toward equality.
